Coco Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka in three sets to win her maiden grand slam title on home soil at the Arthur Ashe stadium tonight.
It was not the best of starts for the 19 year old sixth seed but recovered just in time to take the second set after losing the first the much fancied Aryna Sabalenka.

The 25 year old second seed Russian then lost her serve twice at the beginning of the crucial third set to hand Coco Gauff an early advantage – with the American going on to win the third set and the contest as a whole with a 2-6 6-3 6-2 finish.

Following her breathtaking feat, Gauff becomes the youngest American US Open champion since Serena Williams in 1999. She is also the youngest American Grand Slam winner.
