2023 FIFA WWC : Morocco stuns Colombia, while Germany gets Knocked out

Morocco reached the knock out stage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup at the first time of asking following an impressive 1-0 win over Colombia in their final Group H game.

The Atlas Lionesses kept the Colombians at bay for much of the openinghalf at the HBF Park in Perth before taking the lead in added time of the first half. Anissa Lahmari tucked home the rebound after Ghizlane Chebbak’s spot kick was saved

The World Cup debutant went on to secure a famous win.

Elsewhere, Germany were eliminated from the FIFA Women’s World Cup after they failed to beat Korea Republic at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane..

The former World Champions had to win the game but they couldn’t manage the feat and thanks to Morocco’s stunning win over Colombia, they exit the tournament at the group stage.

Unexpectedly, it was the Koreans who went ahead after just 6 minutes of play. So-Hyun Cho after collecting a defence splitting pass from LeeYoung Just from midfield, tucked in beautifully from close range.

It took the Germans quite a while to respond after going down that early in the game but Alex Popp popped up to score her fourth goal of the tournament and Germany’s equalizer before the break.

11 minutes after the restart, Jule Brand thought she had given Germany the lead but much to her dismay and that of her team mates, the goal wasn’t given because she was in an offside position when she scored..

Germany kept at it and in search of another goal to win the game but they just couldn’t find what was needed to confirm their place in the next round. The World number 2 ranked nation were subsequently eliminated thanks to Morocco’s positive result in the group’s other game
