Colombia moved a step closer qualification to the round of 16 following an impressive 2-1 win over Germany at the Football Stadium in Sydney.
For much of the first half it was a huge tussle at the middle of the park as both teams could only manage a shot on target apiece during the opening half
However, Linda Caicedo with her second goal of the tournament gave Colombia the lead 8 minutes after the restart. After skipping past a number of challenge inside the box, the 18 year old rising star curled the ball into the back of the net and beyond the reach of Merle Frohms in goal for Germany.
The Europeans kept up the intensity in a bid to atleast get something out of the game. Despite Colombia’s spirited approach at not letting the Germans get back into the contest, they eventually carved in.

A life line came the way of Germany with a penalty awarded in their favour. Alex Popp stepped up and scored from the spot two minutes before the end of regulation time.

However, Colombia eventually won the game with an extra time effort from Manuela Vanegas, sending the stadium into a state of Frenzy for those supporting the South Americans.
