African Champions South Africa were denied a valuable three points after Argentina came back from 2 goals down to secure a well deserved draw in their 2nd game played at the Forsyth Bar Stadium in Dudedin.
The game burst in life at the dot of the half hour make when the Banana Bayana broke the deadlock. Linda Motlhalo tapped in from close range after receiving the ball from the lively Thembi Kgatlana.
The goal was ruled out for offside however the initial decision was upturned by a VAR check. Much to the delight of Linda Motlhalo who broke down in tears.
Thembi Kgatlana extended South Africa’s advantage six minutes after the hour mark. She fired into the roof of the net after getting on the end of a low cross from Jermaine Seoposenwe.
After conceding a second, Argentina ins search of a lifeline stepped it up and in the space of five minutes they got two goals to draw level. They pulled one back in the 74th minute thanks to Sophie Braun’s superb strike from out the area.
Five minutes later, they drew level thanks to Romina Nunez’s header inside the box after Yamila Rodriguez picked her out with the ball.
The game eventually ended on that not with South Africa needing to beat Italy in their last group match to stand any chance of making it into the Round of 16 stage.
