2023 FIFA WWC : Spain Secures Round Of 16 Spot, Wallops Zambia 5-0

Spain all but secured a round of 16 Spot at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup following a comprehensive 5-0 win over Zambia at the Eden Park in Auckland.

The dominant Europeans raced into an early lead after 9 minutes courtesy of a beauty strike the found the top corner from Teresa Abelleira Duenas.

They doubled their early lead four minutes after the first, this time it was Jenifer Hermoso who assisted for the first goal. She got on the end of a perfect cross from Alexia Putellas to score Spain’s second.

zambia grew into the contest shortly afterwards and late into first half but still didn’t offer any genuine threat for Spain before the break.

9 minutes after the hour mark, Spain deservedly grabbed a third. Alba Maria Redondo Ferrer scored with a fine effort. She showed composure, rounded the keeper before slotting home after Eva Maria Navarro put her through with a fine pass.

It was not long effort before Spain again scóred. Jenifer Hermoso grabbed a fourth for Spain and her second on the day in the 74th minute.before Alba Maria Redondo Ferrer put the cherry on the ice three minutes from time with Spain’s fifth.

The result effectively sent Spain through to the next round of the competition. Zambia on the other hand faces elimination after they lost yet again and following their 5-0 loss to Japan.
