2023 FIFA WWC : Switzerland Hold Out For A Draw Against Norway

Switzerland played out a goalless draw against Norway in their second game of the on going FIFA Women’s World Cup played at the Waitato Stadium in Hamilton.

Switzerland had their goalkeeper Gaelle Thalmann was the busiest of the two goalkeepers all game, making countless save to keep her team in the contest. She perhaps saved her team from losing the game.

Both teams had their moments in the first half with the Swiss slightly the better side . Without Ada Hegerberg who suffered a bruised groin during the pre match warm up, Norway did quite well , especially Sophie Roman Haug [ Ada Hegerberg ‘s replacement]

However, and despite all their positive endeavors, none of the teams could find the much needed breakthrough at the break.

Following the restart , it was Norway who stepped up a few notch. For everytime they approached the rear guard of the Swiss, it looks as though they were going to get the game’s opener. . Both Sophie Roman Haug and substitute Caroline Hansen called Gaelle Thalmann into action as well.

Five minutes from time, an opportunity to take the lead materialized for Norway via a freekick in front of the 18 yard box but Caroline Hansen failed to find the target.

Following the conclusion of the tensed encounter, the Norwegians remain in danger of exiting the tournament despite picking their first point. Switzerland , on the other side moves closer to a place in the knockout stage of the competition with 4 points after two games.

Norway sit bottom of Group A without a win. That’s now four matches without scoring at a major tournament and six games without a win.
