Chelsea did just enough to get the better of fellow Premier League outfit Brighton in an entertaining 7 goal Thriller.
The first game of the Premier League’s summer series played at the Lincoln Financial field in Philadelphia saw the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Mykhailo Mudryk and Nico Jacksons grabbing their first goals for the club – with the latter providing two assist as well.
The Seagulls took the lead after just 13 minutes on the clock courtesy of a goal by Danny Welbeck with Kaoru Mitoma the provider. However, Mauricio Pochettino ‘s men responded quite swifty.
It was one of the club’s summer recruit in Christopher Nkunku who drew the blues level 6 minutes after Brighton’s opener. For the rest of the first half both teams cancelled them selves out with the scoreline staying the same at the break.
With both De Zerbi and Pochettino making 4 changes to their respective teams at the start of the second half, it was the Blues who found their rhythm after the Jan Paul vanHecke picked 2 yellow cards in quick succession.
Just few minutes after the Dutch man’s expulsion, Mykhailo Mudryk gave Chelsea the lead for the first time in the game. The Ukrainian International had Nico Jackson to thank for his first goal in blues colour since his winter arrival at the club.
Callum Gallagher extended the Blues’s advantage with a goal of his own in the 72nd minutes before Nico Jackson, who arrived this summer as well grabbed Chelsea’s fourth and final striker 5 minutes after providing the assist for Gallagher.
Brighton in their usual approach weren’t going down without a fight as grabbed two goals later on and before the end of the game. First , substitute Joao Pedro who scored their second in the 79th minute.
Just before the 90th minute mark, Deniz Undav got on the act, scoring Brighton’s third goal and what was the final goal of the entertaining game.
