Following the sack of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu by his ward and the Benue High Court, it has been reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to replace the Dr. Iyorchia. It was gathered that the Deputy National Chairman (North) Ambassador Umar Damagun, has been the acting chairman and has failed to meet up with the task.
A source reportedly said that the party are placing respect and general acceptance as a major requirements for the leadership position. He said, “PDP is blessed with such people; somebody like (Bukola) Saraki or David Mark, is the person we need now to give the party direction. “Mark was even the first person to be approached, but somehow Ayu emerged. I know if representation is again made to him, and he is convinced that they are serious, he may accept the offer.”
“He is someone who has the interest of PDP at heart. When Saraki and others were defecting to the APC, Mark said he will remain in PDP even if it means he is the last man standing.” He noted that PDP had given out its chairmanship position to the North Central.
According to Osaro Onaiwu, the director general of campaign for Seraki when he contested for the PDP presidential ticket, said that, “Saraki was grateful for the love shown him by PDP faithful across the country, who are clamouring that he should help return the party to its former leadership role in the country.”
“Dr. Saraki has been playing in the background and has been holding the party together since after the general elections earlier in the year.” “There are other former presidential aspirants that can be- come chairman. I can tell you on good authority that the issue is not an option for Saraki. “
“Dr. Saraki is a utility player, who has been holding the party together through several interventions. We believe he can still be playing deep in the party’s affairs without be- ing the chairman.”
