The Nigeria Super 8 tournament last night reached the semi-final phases after the completion of all three games by teams in Group A and B. The Curtain Raiser tournament which will usher the 2023/24 Nigeria League Season will continue today with the two top teams in each group battling for the last stage of the final.
From Group A, NPFL’s newly promoted side Sporting Lagos went against every (odds) to top the group after two wins and a draw. Ogun-based club, Remo finished as the group runner-up after managing 4 points after 3 games, they qualified ahead of Katsina United who also attained 4 points on head-to-head. Unfortunately, the NPFL Champions Enyimba FC finished at the bottom of the group with just a point—a poor feat the manager has blamed on fatigue.
Makurdi-based club, Lobi Star, leads group B following their 7 points accumulation after 3 games. Fatai Osho side, Akwa United, finished as the group’s runner-up after acquiring 6 points from 3 games. Former NPFL Champions, Pride of Rivers and Yobe Deserts finished in the 3rd and 4th spots respectively following their indigent campaign.
The semi-final today will feature two games at the Johnson Mobolaji Arena, Lagos – Lobi Stars will battle Remo Stars at exactly 2 pm. Sporting Lagos will play in their first-ever stringent stage when they contest against Akwa United at 4:30 pm at the same venue.

The tournament, which is televised on DSTV, also will have in the stadium today some top Nigerian musicians who will grace the occasion with their musical prowess before the commencement of the games.
