In the women’s draw of the on going Wimbledon Open Championships, it was a day packed with surprises as Elina Svitolina eliminated Igak Swiatek to book her place in the semi final stage.
The 76th seed Ukrainian picked up the first set via the tie break rule just as Swiatek did in the second but it was the former, who eventually went through courtesy of a 7-5 7-6 6-2 after easily taking the third set.
Elsewhere , Market Vondrousova knocked out Jessica Pegula out of the on going Wimbledon Open championships after beating the much fancied American 6-4 2-6 6-4.
Despite dropping the first set, the crowd could have been forgiven if they thought the Pegula would bounce back and win the contest. She took the second set quite comfortably but like the first set, she dropped the third one.
Vondrousova ‘s latest success earned her a semi final spot for the time and what was special about it , was that no one could have imagined it was her who would go through.
